As a military veteran I’ve always taken training to be the single most important thing we do aside from executing the mission. Great training results in superior execution. Train as closely as possible to how you fight. However, training with firearms and weapons requires extra care to ensure it is done safely, for both the preservation of personnel and weapon systems.

Aggressive, realistic training requires pace, repetition, and realism wherever possible. At times it is not practical or safe to carry functional firearms and weapons. Exercises would be frequently interrupted checking for “hot” firearms, and worrying about that potential error. In addition, lively training injects the risk of damaging a service weapon, or even losing sensitive items in the heat of intense simulations. Now training is displaced by costly repairs and extensive searches for missing firearms, not to mention the subsequent hours of paperwork.
